Do you know how many calories your favorite summer drink has? If you are watching your weight this summer, don?t let your hard work go down the drain by having a drink that sounds healthy, but in fact isn?t. In 2010 a study showed that women were downing? 56% more calories a day from drinks then they had been thirty years ago. I don?t know about you but when it comes to calories, numbers don?t mean much to me. However, when comparing the drinks to junk food it definitely has more of an impact! Here are some helpful comparisons:
?
1)????? 16-oz. breakfast smoothie (470 calories) ? Might as well be a double cheese burger (450 Calories)
Smoothies are a great way to get nutrients in your diet; however the sugar can be hurtful rather than helpful.? If you want a smoothie add all natural fruits and no mixers.
?
2)????? A frozen mocha (560 calories) ? Five-layer beef burrito (540 calories)
If you want to order a frozen mocha with less calories ask for skim milk and skip the whipped cream.
?
3)????? A large sweet tea (291 calories) ? Small fries (271 calories)
Ask for un-sweetened ice tea rather than sweetened. Plus, the added sugar makes you hungrier faster, even if you just ate.
?
?
?
4)????? A Soda (152 calories) ? A bag of nacho cheese chips (150 calories)
If you need caffeine in your daily life (like I do) try skipping the soda and have a skim iced coffee or green tea instead.
?
5)????? A mojito (225 calories) ? Two brownies (224 calories)
A mojito is pretty much dessert in a drink. Keep in mind how many of them you are drinking in one sitting, or switch to a different drink with lower calories.
?
6)????? A 6.5-oz. glass of wine (165 calories) ? 3 mini powdered doughnuts (167 calories)
Everyone enjoys a nice glass of wine, but most of us don?t actually realize the calories we are adding into our body. Drink carefully and remember that solid food fills you up more.
?
Next time you order a drink remember that calories are still calories whether you chew them or drink them. This quote helps make sense of the concept. ?Researchers found that when subjects ate solid food, they mentally registered the calories they were taking in?but when they drank a liquid form of the same food, they didn?t. ?We often equate consumption with?chewing,?not drinking,? ?
