Eastern Carolina is getting 350 new jobs thanks to an Austrian timber manufacturer.
Klausner Lumber Two, a privately-owned softwood timber manufacturer, will build a state-of-the art sawmill in Halifax County.
Governor Beverly Perdue says the company plans to create 350 jobs over the next three years and invest $110 million in the project in Enfield. Average salaries will be $32,603 per year for the new jobs.
To help make it happen, the company has been awarded a grant of up to $750,000 from the state's One North Carolina Fund.
The Klausner family has been in the sawmilling business for nearly a century. The company operates two mills in Germany, with headquarters based in Tyrol, Austria. The proposed Enfield mill will produce construction quality lumber and structural timber for domestic and world markets.
