Dauphin County gaming money to help HIA airline retention and ...

Dauphin County commissioners have agreed to devote up to $375,000 in gaming funds to an initiative to retain and expand airline service at Harrisburg International Airport

The venture proposed by the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority calls for using those funds to help cover revenue shortfalls of route start-ups and encourage airlines to allow the services to mature to profitability.

The money will come from the county?s share of gaming revenue from the Hollywood Casino in East Hanover Township. SARAA and HIA must match each gaming dollar received. SARAA has about $100,000 and will seek donations from businesses, said Mark Stewart, county solicitor for gaming issues.

?If this is going to work we have to have community buy-in,? Commission Chairman Jeff Haste said. Commissioner George Hartwick III said money also should be sought from neighboring counties.
