Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American and Latin American rights to Footnote, from writer-director Joseph Cedar. The film, which is In Competition at the Festival de Cannes, will have its gala premiere Saturday night.
ICM, which reps Cedar, and London-based WestEnd repped the sale.
The film follows what happens between a father and his son, highly competitive professors, after one is chosen to receive a great honor. Shlomo?Bar Aba?and Lior Ashkenazi?star, David Mandil?and United King produced.
Cedar?s previous film, Beaufort, was nominated for best foreign language film at the Oscars in 2007.?SPC acquired?In a Better World?and?The Secret in Their Eyes?at previous Cannes markets and both won the prize.

SPC also has picked up Tamara Drewe?and Mother and Child?from WestEnd in recent years.
