Realise the Early Warning Signals of a Drive thats Failing ...

Click. Click. Click. That?s the horrible sound of hard disk failure.

Many a user has started their PC and heard this sound as they watch the boot process fail continually. Hopefully, they have backed up crucial documents, data, photographs, and video on their computer. Sadly, many users never back up, or don?t do it frequently and fully.

Before things get to this point, there are some danger signals of hard drive failure you can watch for.

While that clicking sound usually means the hard drive has failed, other noises might tip you off to approaching problems. Over the passage of time you become accustomed to the sounds your hard drive makes as it accesses information. If you begin to hear any weird sounds, whether whirring or extended ?seek? noises as the drive hunts information, take immediate steps to back up your info.

Note any changes in computer performance. Every time you start you computer, the primary and any secondary hard drives are recognized by the motherboard?s BIOS. If you?re having anything greater than infrequent boot-up issues, this may be a signal of a failing hard disk.

Every computer freezes now and then. But if it?s happening more often, the drive could be the explanation.

You may experience slower file access times. This might just mean that it is time to have your computer?s hard disk defragmented. But if after defragmenting, file access is still slow and worsening, be suspicious of the drive.

Also beware spontaneous restarting of the computer, and error messages in relation to the hard drive.

If you encounter any of these symptoms, consider yourself lucky in a way. Infrequently hard drives fail without any warning.

Hard disk capacity today is bigger than ever before. That means however, that rather more data is at risk when they fail. After a drive fails, you should set aside your disappointment and put together a list or best assessment of everything that was on the drive. Decide what can be replaced if the worst happens and what is essential to you.

At this point, it should be time to turn to a data recovery company to salvage your important information and perform a hard drive recovery. There?s is certain to be a probability that all the info can be revived, as data recovery technology has been advancing along with hard drive technology, so give this option serious consideration.

Jason Sloan runs a data recovery business called Kingdom Data Recovery Edinburgh who service all the United Kingdom. He?s got many articles on his web site which refer to issues with storage and helpful info regarding stopping data loss.
