Japan gets 2014 figure skating world championships

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) ? Japan has been awarded the 2014 figure skating world championships, three months after giving up this year?s event following a devastating earthquake.

International Skating Union officials announced Tuesday the 2014 worlds will be in Tokyo or nearby Saitama.

This year?s world championships had been scheduled for late March in Tokyo. But Japanese officials decided there was no way the country could serve as host following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami and subsequent nuclear crisis. The competition was moved to Moscow.
