William Fichtner Joins Ninja Turtles

Cameras are already rolling on Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, but we still do not know who is playing Shredder, the movie's main bad guy. Maybe with today's casting news, that mystery has been solved.

According to Deadline, William Fichtner, aka Hey, It's That Guy!, has joined the movie, but who he is playing was not revealed other than he's playing "a lead with iconic stature in the Turtles' mythology."

That can only mean Shredder, right? Sure, Fichtner doesn't even look Japanese, not even remotely, but when did Hollywood have any qualms about casting Asian characters with actors of European descent? Unless, of course, he's playing some other iconic characters like the mad scientist Baxter Stockman or the Rat King. Those are some possibilities as well. Casey Jones?

Megan Fox is playing April O'Neil, and Noel Fisher, Pete Ploszek, Alan Ritchson, and Jeremy Howard are playing the Turtles. Danny Woodburn is playing the Turtles' sensei Splinter. Will Arnett is also in the movie, but his role remains unknown.

Michael Bay, who is producing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, previously said the Turtles are of an alien race in the reboot, but that may no longer be the case.

"There was that quote saying that we're making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We're not. It's the ooze! It's from the original source material," Bay told Moviefone.

Jonathan Liebesman is directing, and the movie is set for release on June 6, 2014.
